PDS Logistics, so much more than just Warehousing and Distribution Solutions

PDS Logistics

John McClelland MD has built a company which provides a complete warehousing, distribution and stock handling service, indeed a true "one-stop-shop.

In 1995, he took over PDS UK, or PDS International Limited as it then became, and settled the company at the Burtonwood RAF Base, just outside Warrington.

In 2013, the company moved to a more purpose built location on the TRIO development, just outside Liverpool. This development is situated on the main spine road of the well-established Knowsley Industrial Estate which is well connected to the region and motorway network, sitting 10 miles north east of Liverpool and 32 miles west of Manchester, and offered PDS excellent expansion opportunities.

The company has thrived on the development to such an extent that they took over a second high bay unit and are just about to take over their third building on the site giving them the opportunity to offer an expanded range of services to their clients from one location. The expansion will provide over 160,000 sq.ft. of secure, mainly high bay palletised, shelf and block stack storage with processing space to handle deliveries arriving in containers, trailers, pallets or individual cartons.

PDS clients can be either short term or long, varying from large multi nationals to small independents, some just for storage, others for the full menu of services.

The range of services PDS provide includes not just quality ambient storage facilities and logistics, but QC Inspection, Reworks, Order Processing, Spares Processing, Returns Processing, Personalisation, Labelling, Bar-coding, Fulfilment, Distribution,  scheduling, customer service, marketing support and invoicing.

On behalf of its clients, PDS serves many household names, including  such demanding clients as Amazon, Boots, Lakeland, Argos, Costco, John Lewis, Boots, Costco, Debenhams, Harrods, JD Williams, Matalan, Next, Selfridges, Stax, Superdrug, and Tesco and take pride in the range of high quality added value services they offer.

John told us that the expansion in the sector is directly related to the boom in e-commerce, which, while welcome, has brought its own challenges to operators and requires a very rapid order processing service, and full cooperation from suppliers, who for many years have worked on a "just in time principle", meaning an occasional lack of supply in order to fulfil the orders required. Goods are frequently required for next day delivery, returns need processing quickly and efficiently all of which results in the need for advanced stock control systems. Automated systems, palm held devices and robotics will all play their part, over the coming years, in ensuring the efficient movement of goods.

From single units, mixed or full cartons, along with full pallets, and all from the same location, PDS can process and despatch on a daily basis for delivery throughout the UK and Ireland, and their experienced, customer focused team, most of which have been with PDS since the late 90's, take a flexible hands-on approach and work with all PDS clients to understand their business, developing the right solutions for them.
